Director of the Defence Institue “Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov” (2016 - 2017), principal member of the NATO Science & Technology Board and EDA’s R&T Steering Board (until 2017), and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Defence & Security Technologies (until 2017). In addition to his academic career, Prof. Tagarev has served served in senior positions in the defence establishment, including as Defence Minister in Bulgaria’s Caretaker Government, March-May 2013.
Prof. Tagarev is Editor-in-Chief of Information & Security: An Ingternational Journal and European Data Quarterly, and member of the Editorial Board of Connections: The Quarterly Journal.
